The Joy is in the Journey

Frank Lloyd Wright, as a small boy, went for a walk across a snow-covered field with his serious, no-nonsense uncle. When they reached the far side, his uncle pointed to his own tracks in the snow, straight and true as an arrow’s flight, and then young Frank’s tracks meandering all over the field. ‘You see how your tracks wander aimlessly from the fence to the cattle to the woods and back again,’ his uncle said. ‘But now look at mine and see how my tracks aim directly to my goal. Remember that because there’s an important lesson for you.’ Years later the world-famous architect, with a twinkle in his eye, used to say: ‘I determined right then not to miss the things in life, that my uncle had missed.’
The joy in life is not the goal but the journey on the way to the goal.
