Creating things that devour us

There’s an ancient legend from India about four princes who went off to develop special powers and then met to reveal what they had learned. The first said, “I have learned how to take a creature’s bone and create flesh on it.” The second said, “I know how to grow that creature’s skin and hair on its bones.” The third said, “I am able to create its limbs;” and the fourth said, “I know how to give it life.” So the brothers went into the jungle and they found the bone of a lion. Each one did his bit and the result was a ferocious beast that jumped on his creators and ate them.
We too have the capacity to create what can devour us. Goals and dreams can consume us; possessions and property can obsess and destroy us. That’s why Jesus said we should make finding God’s Kingdom our priority, and all the other good things will follow.
